Adviser Home, Redwheel and Blue Whale Capital CPD Webinar – Investing in Global Equities – has the game changed or not?

Understanding the direction of travel for global equities is a key concern for you and your clients. So we’ve been working with two leading investment boutiques – Redwheel and Blue Whale Capital – to put together a high quality incisive webinar led by leading commentator, John Lappin.

When?  Tuesday 13th September 14:00 – 15:00 With 60 mins CPD

After short presentations from Nick Clay, Portfolio Manager, Redwheel Global Equity Income Strategy and Stephen Yiu, lead manager of LF Blue Whale Growth Fund, John Lappin will lead the debate, answering your questions and adding in a few of his own. These managers have well thought out but very different points of view so we anticipate a really worthwhile event and you can secure your place now.

Nick Clay, Portfolio Manager, Redwheel Global Equity Income Strategy – Key points and discussion areas:-

The more things change, the more they stay the same…

  • The pandemic made investors believe everything had changed, for companies and for investing style. Turns out, not much has changed, and the “old” proven ways of generating a total return, of finding a good investment, haven’t changed
  • Compounding a dividend via quality companies continues to show that the tortoise is far from dead in this environment and is actually more appropriate than ever, and it doesn’t have to compromise on structural trends or new responsibilities
  • How the time tested strategy remains to be a consistent core performer
  • Extrapolating the now forever is a common made mistake
  • Are we already late in this economic cycle?
  • As the market backdrop changes, what is the most appropriate way to manage you clients monies within equities?

Nick has been managing the Global Income Equity strategy since 2012 while at Newton Investment Management where he spent 20 years and managed a variety of global multi asset strategies. Nick joined Redwheel as lead Portfolio Manager in November 2020 along with his team from Newton to continue managing the strategy.

An introduction to high conviction investing – Stephen Yiu, Blue Whale Capital lead manager of LF Blue Whale – Key Points and discussion areas:-

Those clinging to traditional industries in the hope of a sustained recovery risk being left behind…

  • The old economy of yesteryear is dead. Digitally advanced companies are leveraging technology to disrupt traditional industries like never before
  • Ethically minded consumers are spelling the decline for those companies and industries which harm the environment and have dubious ethical credentials
  • Globalisation is slowing as countries look to repatriate supply chains
  • Finding the highest quality businesses in the world
  • Benefits of primary-source based company research (vs. sell-side)
  • Blue Whale approach to financial modelling and valuation
