It is not often possible to get a personal, close-up look at how EIS fund managers make their investment decisions and support entrepreneurs. But a new series of webinars from Vala Capital, a firm we have just started working with, is designed to let you do just that.
Vala is an investment business run by a team of experienced entrepreneurs. Their investment committee includes Jasper Smith, Arthur Hughes, John Swingewood and Paddy Willis, who between them have founded, built and sold numerous businesses over the last 20 years. Their long track record includes investing £48m into around 50 small companies, returning £148m from 35 exits to date.
Drawing on this experience, Vala stands out in the EIS market for the level of entrepreneurial support they provide to the founders of the companies they back.
A look behind the scenes
To help advisers understand what goes on behind the scenes, Vala is hosting webinars where members of the investment committee chat with the founders of Vala’s portfolio companies.
The next webinar will be on 13 August at 11am, featuring Paddy Willis (food and beverage entrepreneur and co-founder of Mission Ventures) and Paul Rostand, chief executive of Great British Biscotti Company. Paddy and Paul will discuss:
- The due diligence and approval process that led to Vala's investment in Great British Biscotti Company
- The challenges and successes that the business has faced so far, including the impact of Covid-19
- What the future holds for the business and the wider food & beverage industry
- How Vala Capital will support Paul's ambitious growth plans for the business, and the benefit of having Paddy’s experience to lean on.
This webinar will really bring the challenges faced by younger businesses to life, and show the added value for founding entrepreneurs both personally and for their business from working with the industry experts that form the Vala Capital 'ecosystem'.
